Description

The UTMCU5 provides five usable ways in a 141 mm wide metal enclosure, offering one extra circuit over the UTMCU4 without a significant size increase. It is suited for studio apartments, small offices, and light commercial spaces where a modest circuit count meets the load requirement. The cold-rolled steel body with RAL9003 powder coating delivers IP20 and IK05 protection for dry indoor use.

Key Features – Built for Electricians, Trusted by Installers

CE Certified to EU/UK Standards

Rigorous type‑testing per BS EN 61439‑3 guarantees full conformity with BS 7671 wiring regulations. This certification streamlines the approval process during site inspections and provides certifying electricians with documented assurance of component reliability.

01

Heavy-Duty Steel Enclosure

A cold‑rolled steel base, finished with a matte white polyester powder coating (RAL9003), delivers long‑term structural integrity. This surface treatment effectively guards against rust formation, surface scratching, and minor mechanical impacts (IK05), maintaining the unit's appearance and protective performance over years of service.

02

Flexible Cable Entry

Pre-punched knockouts on top, bottom, left, right, and rear:
• Top/Bottom: 20mm, 25mm, 32mm
• Sides: 32mm + 40mm slots
• Rear: Large access slots for trunking or conduit
→ Route cables from any angle, even in tight spaces.

03

Spacious Interior Design

A raised DIN‑rail profile creates additional vertical clearance beneath the busbar, facilitating neat conductor bending and secure terminal tightening. The generous spacing between components reduces the risk of accidental contact during live working and improves passive cooling for densely populated RCBO configurations.

04

Secure Magnetic Lid Closure

Four distinct circuit architectures are supported to match varying installation requirements: Main Switch CU (individual MCB protection plus an upstream isolator), Dual RCD CU (two residual current devices dividing circuits into separate zones for economical compliance), High Integrity CU (a blended arrangement of RCDs and RCBOs providing selective fault isolation), and RCD‑only CU (tailored for sub‑distribution points without a dedicated incoming switch).

05

Modular Wiring Configurations

Copper busbars for earthing and neutral terminations come factory‑fitted, eliminating the need for separate bar procurement and positioning. Their layout conforms to BS 7671 separation requirements, reducing on‑site termination time and ensuring consistent earth bonding across all outgoing circuits.

06

Pre-Installed Ground & Neutral Bars

A dedicated directory card is housed behind the front cover, offering a permanent location for recording circuit assignments. This feature simplifies routine testing, speeds up fault diagnosis, and aids future modifications by providing instant visual reference to each protective device's designated load.

07

Clear Circuit Labeling Area

The drop‑down front door is retained by a robust magnetic catch that holds it firmly closed against vibration or accidental knocks, while still permitting one‑handed opening for quick periodic checks. This design balances everyday security with maintenance accessibility without relying on key locks that may be misplaced.

Fast FAQ – Answers for Pros & DIYers

Q1: How does the 5-way/4-module designation affect breaker selection when using 2-pole RCBOs?

A: The "5-way" refers to single-pole device positions. A 2-pole RCBO occupies 2 modules, reducing the usable way count. In practice, a 5-way/4-module box accommodates two 2-pole RCBOs (4 modules) plus one 1-pole MCB, or one 2-pole RCBO and three 1-pole MCBs. Verify the physical module width of your selected devices against the 4-module chassis before ordering.

Q2: Do I need to buy the flush mounting kit separately, or can I surface-mount without it?

A: The box is ready for surface mounting out of the box-brackets and screws are included. The flush mounting kit is only needed if you want the lid flush with the wall surface for a built-in look. It includes a metal frame and plaster guard. Order it at the same time if your client specifies flush installation.

Q3: Will Schneider or ABB breakers snap directly onto this DIN rail?

A: Yes. The 35 mm galvanized steel DIN rail is a universal standard. Schneider Acti9, ABB System Pro M, Hager, and other major brands' 18 mm single-pole or 36 mm double-pole devices will snap directly into place. Always verify the breaker depth does not exceed the internal clearance, especially for deeper RCBO models.

Q4: What is the maximum simultaneous disconnection time for fault protection when using the factory-fitted copper bus bars?

A: The disconnection time is determined by the MCB or RCBO characteristics, not the bus bars. For a 230 V TN system, BS 7671 requires a maximum disconnection time of 0.4 seconds for final circuits up to 32 A and 5 seconds for distribution circuits. Ensure that the earth fault loop impedance (Zs) at the furthest point does not exceed the tabulated values for your selected breaker curve (B, C, or D) and rating.
